Skating for a Cause: Support Me and Crescent Cove

I am skating the Apostle Island Inline Marathon on June 14th and am raising money for Crescent Cove. Please help me reach my fundraising goal!

What am I doing?

Inline skating: Known more commonly as Rollerblading. But I don't have Rollerblade brand skates, so it's inline skating when I do it and when people organize these events, unless they want to get sued for trademark misuse.

Marathon: That's the distance, 26.2 miles. Most people run marathons. Those people are crazy. I am skating one. The marathon means the distance, not the activity.

Apostle Island: This is a beautiful island off the coast of Wisconsin in Lake Superior. The closest city is Bayfield, WI, and all skaters take a ferry in the morning over to the island. The course is 3 loops (and a little extra) around the island on a closed road. It's a stunning view from every angle, and is one of my favorite events!

I began training in early April, and am slowly getting re-accustomed to the feel of skates, the vibration of pavement, and the muscles that are used to accomplish this feat. This will be my first marathon in — gulp —5 years?! I don't think I've done one since the pandemic started.

Why am I raising money for Crescent Cove? That's the easiest question of all! Because Crescent Cove supports children with complex medical conditions and those who may not survive into adulthood. No parent should ever have to bury their child, but sadly, some do. Supporting these families through caregiving years and end-of-life care for their children is an important and honorable mission, one that is primarily funded by donations. Families pay no out-of-pocket cost to receive services from Crescent Cove, and 70% of funding comes from the community of donors.

I am so humbled to work at Crescent Cove and to connect with families and donors every day whose compassion extends to strangers they have never met. Thank you for donating to my campaign to support the kids and families served by Crescent Cove.
